We all saw this coming.
Once I fell behind enough, it was very easy to let go and admit defeat. I get that the point of NaNo is to get you writing through even the busiest of times, but…I was not strong enough to handle holiday prep and daily word counts.
Did I learn anything from this failure? Mostly that it’s going to take probably a lot longer for me to finish this novel, but I don’t actually regret anything. I got to have some extended and much needed mental health days, catching up on reading, exercise, and human contact. I think the marathon writing days are what really did in me and burned me out. So, that’s pretty much the takeaway lesson this year: Don’t fall behind because killing yourself trying to catch up will ruin everything!!!!! I know that my usual plodding tempo is going to keep my dreams at bay for longer than it should, but I think keeping sane and healthy is going to contribute to a much stronger novel. Or, at least, I hope so.
No deep thoughts today, folks. Just an oddly elaborate live version of the Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf song:
In the meantime, check out our recent blogs over at OK Potato:

“When people showed me Game Of Throne’s tv show the first time, scandalized at the opening nudity and following sex scenes, I laughed at their innocence.”
I’ll be back with actual content later this week, probably. Thanks for sticking around.
